What is supposed to happen in therapy anyway? How do I know if it is working?
The primary goal of therapy is to develop a better understanding of yourself. Therapy works best when it is a dialog, especially if you are open to receive direct feedback from your therapist. When you talk about the challenges in your life, and your interpersonal interactions, therapy can help you see yourself more honestly. Most of us are not aware of how we come across to others when we are having strong feelings such as anger, frustration or anxiety. Once you are able to understand how to manage your feelings more effectively, you will stop unintentionally pushing others away and connect in a more vulnerable way.
