FAQ

Where are you located?

My practice is in Newport Beach, right across from John Wayne Airport. It is easily accessible because the office is right off the exit of three freeways (55, 405, and the 73 toll road).

Is Gritty Therapy right for me?

Yes, if you are highly motivated to change your behavior and respond to situations and people in your life. You need to be willing to try new things that are outside of your comfort zone.

Additionally, you must know that you cannot change other people. The goal of therapy is to understand yourself better and change what does not work for you with the people in your life.

With whom do you work?

The people I work with are in therapy because something is not working in their life. Although every person is entirely different and comes with specific reasons for seeking therapy, the issues tend to fall into three broad categories:

  • Anxiety (and a desire to understand where it is coming from and how to manage it)
  • An inability to sustain connection in long-term relationships (“Why do all of my intimate relationships fail?”)
  • Difficulty with emotional regulation (the inability to communicate rationally in the face of frustration, strong uncomfortable feelings, or interpersonal conflict)

Being a human in the 21st century requires more courage and resilience than most of us never learned.

Gritty Therapy is about being willing to leave your comfort zone and push through the walls and obstacles that are causing you to feel trapped in your own life.

What is your cancellation policy?

When we start therapy, you will be given a standing weekly appointment.

This weekly appointment is your spot, and I will not fill it with anyone else! However, if you cannot make the session, I ask that you provide me with at least 24 hours’ notice.

Otherwise, you will be charged for the session. Occasionally, if we can reschedule your missed appointment within the same week, we can get around the charge.

What is your availability?
I have a full-time practice and work five days a week. If you need a late appointment after work, I can accommodate you unless all evening appointments are filled.
How often do I need to go to therapy?

Typically, people find weekly therapy to be the most productive. I discourage meeting every other week because it breaks the rhythm of the therapeutic process if there is too much time between sessions.

When people see me during a crisis, I often recommend twice a week for the first month or two.

What is the average length of time that people stay in therapy with you?

It varies quite a bit, depending on the person’s goals and how motivated they are to change what isn’t working in their lives.

The range of time people stay in therapy is from six months to three years. The more motivated you are to bring your honest internal conflicts to your sessions each week, the quicker you will move through the therapeutic process.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance; however, if you do have insurance, I can give you a bill that you can submit to your insurance company.

You will get reimbursed the “out of network” amount, and it will be mailed directly to you.

Will there be “homework” to do outside of the weekly sessions?

Absolutely. I will provide you with tailored podcasts to listen to, articles to read, new communication strategies that need to be practiced, techniques for reducing anxiety, and much more.

If you are unwilling or lack the motivation to do the homework, call another psychologist. I firmly believe that it is impossible to change if you cannot take what you learn in therapy into your everyday life.

What is the best way to contact you?

I prefer texts because I never miss them. Please text me at (949) 300-4623 to set up a consultation. If not now, when?
